How KM and onboarding can strenghten each other

About the meeting

Onboarding helps scale KM awareness, while KM improves the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of onboarding. Each reinforces the other, supporting faster speed to competency and more confident performance in a regulated environment.

Keypoints for the session:

  1. Onboarding as the first KM touchpoint
  2. KM embedded into how work is performed on site
  3. Onboarding people into KM roles and practice
  4. Applying KM to improve the onboarding system itself

After that we’ll open up for discussion:
– Where does KM naturally show up in your onboarding journey today, and where is it missing?
– Is onboarding currently used as a deliberate entry point for KM awareness, or is KM introduced later, if at all?
– How do new starters access critical tacit knowledge in the first 30, 60, or 90 days?
– Who carries the burden of onboarding knowledge, individuals or the organisation?
– What would “faster speed to competency” actually look like in your context, and how would you know if you achieved it?

The aim is not to present a model, but to compare experiences and identify small, practical ways KM and onboarding can better support each other.

Furthermore, we will share challenges and experiences on Information and Knowledge Management with the group members.
